  • Lack of blood supply/oxygen to the brain
  • Head injury
  • Meningitis and encephalitis
  • Some cases of shunted hydrocephalus
  • Infection to the brain
  • Neonatal hypoglycaemia (very low blood sugar at birth)
  • Premature birth
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Hemiplegia
  • Certain chromosome disorders
